Torres Vedras: A Gem Near Lisbon Nestled close to Lisbon, the municipality of Torres Vedras offers a wealth of attractions for nature lovers, history buffs, sports enthusiasts, foodies, and those who appreciate warm hospitality. Inhabited since ancient times, Torres Vedras boasts a rich tapestry of archaeological sites, Roman settlements, Arab castles, medieval churches and monasteries, 16th-century fortresses, and 17th- and 18th-century manor houses. The area has witnessed wars, heroic feats of resistance like the Lines of Torres Vedras, and significant victories. Its historical heritage is complemented by stunning natural landscapes that stretch from the mountains to the sea. With a 20 km coastline, Torres Vedras is home to several beaches of rare natural beauty, renowned for their pristine water and sand quality. The coastline offers numerous reasons to explore and enjoy, with Santa Cruz being a summer highlight. At sea, you can fish, partake in water sports, or simply swim; on land, a diverse entertainment calendar awaits. Santa Cruz Beach Located just out of the easy range of Lisbon, Santa Cruz Beach is still a popular spot but less cosmopolitan than the beaches in the Sintra area. The beach is a huge stretch of beautiful sand backing onto the village of Santa Cruz at the southern end. At one end of the beach is a huge triangular-shaped rock with an arch running under it. There are plenty of facilities, and Santa Cruz has frequently received the Blue Flag award. Facing directly into the Atlantic Ocean, the beach here may not be the best spot to take a swim; it is, however, a great surf spot. If Ericeira is too small, it is often worth the drive up the coast to check out this quality beach break.
